SHARE/CARE GUIDELINES FOR DBSA-ATTLEBORO

The following guidelines are read by the peer facilitator at the beginning of every group meeting:

"DBSA brings together people with similar problems to support each other through sharing and caring, giving all of us more resources to cope - even though no one has all the answers.

We come together to share our feelings, our experiences, and our coping strategies.  We recognize that speaking from our own experience is much more powerful and meaningful than simply giving advice.  In order for people to feel safe to participate, anything anyone reveals here must be kept confidential.

We care for each other by responding compassionately, not judgmentally, recognizing that each person’s problem is unique.  We show how we care by listening empathically, speaking in turn, and not monopolizing.  We do not recommend or prescribe medications; we only share our own experiences with them.  DBSA support groups are not therapy groups and our facilitators are not therapists.

An observer may attend only if members agree at the beginning of the meeting.

AND NOW A WORD FROM OUR SPONSOR

DBSA-Attleboro is able to meet here through the generosity of our hosts at Hillside Adult Day Health Center.  Please respect their wishes that there be no smoking in the building (there is a smoking area outside the side door) and please do not open the alarmed fire doors.  Of paramount importance is our respect for the confidentiality of any patient information we may encounter in this building."
